Sun Gazing!

Although the path of totality for the solar eclipse did not cross over Hiram, that didn't dampen enthusiasm. I visited an eclipse viewing party today on the Hiram College campus. I found several hundred people on hand to witness the event. It had the atmosphere of a summer picnic with people on lawn chairs and blankets. Large telescopes were positioned to give people a close up look at the sun. And everyone seemed to have those special eclipse viewing goggles. As usual, I just wandered about in the crowd looking for good photo opportunities. The sun was blocked nearly 70 percent when these photos were taken and you can see that the sky is not nearly as blue as I usually obtain on a bright day. Photographically very interesting conditions to shoot in. The next solar eclipse visible in this area will be in 2024. The path of totality will sweep right over Hiram for that one!
