Main Street Blowout!
It was a blowout car cruise in Ravenna tonight with a stretch of Route 59 closed to through traffic. I've never before seen so many classic and collectible cars gathered in a single location. Thousands of people were on hand. I could have spent all day photographing an event like this, but was limited to about two hours before the sun set. I wandered about meeting people and finding great subject matter to photograph. I'll post another blog in a day or so presenting portraits of the many people I met along the way.
This is a view looking west on Route 59 near Marc's. The street is jammed with people all the way down to the A&W and there were at least this many people behind me. Most of the parking lots along this stretch were also filled with cars and people.
Photographically, it was like photographing two completely separate events. Early on, the scene was bathed in bright early evening sun with a beautiful blue sky backdrop. But with the rapid sunset this time of year, the last part of the show was enveloped in dusk and it ended after nightfall.
Smartphone cameras were everywhere. I asked this woman to hold her camera so I could take a picture of what she was seeing on her screen.
It wasn't just cars, there were trucks, tractors everywhere, some heavily customized like the wild paint job on this bike.
The Ride for Life motorcycle demonstration team was on hand and did some performances for the enthusiastic crowd.
