Independence Day!
A highlight of summer in Hiram Village is the celebration of Independence Day. A wonderful slice of small-town Americana as residents turn out for fireworks, concerts and the big parade. The sense of community spirit is profound and it’s the main reason I continue to photograph the events each year. Weather was perfect (mostly) and added to festive atmosphere. Experiencing events like this always makes me wonder why there aren’t more of them. I guess that’s part of what makes them special.

Happened upon this forlorn scene on Dean Street after sudden rain chased the community band indoors. I couldn't resist standing on the conductor’s podium.
