Civil War Encampment

I was privileged to attend the Civil War Encampment staged at Century Village in Burton Ohio on August 4th, 2021. The event was cancelled in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. It was re-scheduled for Memorial Day weekend this year, but was postponed on account of weather. The planets finally aligned in early August as the reactors gathered under a brilliant blue sky, the perfect backdrop for photography. The highlight of the day is the battle reenactment, but my fascination is centered more on interacting with the participants in period costume. I love the feeling of walking into history, the experience greatly enhanced by the many ante-bellum structures in the village. As usual, I wandered about with my camera capturing scenes, portraits and the overall feel of the event. Here’s a look through my lens.
