July 4th in Hiram!
The Independence Day celebration in Hiram, Ohio is by far the biggest community event of the year. It began with a community gathering on the evening of July 3 which was capped by the National Anthem sung by Lorena Vines followed by fireworks. Activities resumed at 9 am on July 4th starting with a community softball game, and this year a bake sale sponsored by Hiram Historical Society at the Century House. The annual bike rodeo for kids is hosted by the Hiram Police Department. Always great to see the officers interacting with kids. The grand parade followed at noon, this year returning to its original (pre-pandemic) route through the Village back streets. Afternoon activities included a community potluck and kids games on the Gerstacker green. The community band played a selection of holiday and other favorites to residents who gathered on lawn chairs to listen. The day culminated with the pie contest, ice cream social, and dancing with big band music by the Garretttones. A full day of fun and small town community energy!
