Click It or Ticket!

Hiram police conducted an annual safety belt awareness campaign on the Saturday before Memorial Day. The Click It or Ticket program encourages motorists to buckle up to helps save lives and also save money by avoiding costly tickets. Cars entering the checkpoint were stopped and officer rewarded those who were buckled in with coupons for free donuts and even gift bags until they ran out. Motorists not buckled up (surprisingly few in number) were not ticketed but warned that they would be if pulled over after the event had concluded. For some reason HPD allowed me access to photograph the officers interacting with drivers at the checkpoint. In these situations I try very hard to stay out of the way, yet get in close enough for good photos. A few drivers were not at all pleased to see me or my camera, but for the most part, people were pretty friendly and agreeable to being photographed.
